What makes a character "real" to you? This is our Eng 44B next question to create an action plan around. What do you think makes a character real?
Getting my 20 pages of House of Cuts all polished to take up to the Novel Writing Workshop this weekend. Have to make 8 copies for this in-depth event in a small group, meeting in a Victorian home (painted orange and green--how's that for near Halloween?). You read your work aloud while others follow along on their copies. Then Lucy Sanna and Antoinette May lead an hour-long critique session of your work.
Can't wait to see what I learn this time!

June, I would like to know how do you get involved with a writing workshop? I have google for places out here in the valley. And I don't see ANY!!! I only see workshops out on the east coast!!! It sounds like a very interesting group:-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Libby-Girl. I also want to get involved with a writing group. Maybe we should start ne of our own. I will keep you updated.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a character real to me is the similarities that I would have in common with a character. Their experiences, their lessons, trials, stories, losses, wins and their reactions to it all. It may be only pieces of the charcater that I associate with, but that's all it takes.
Nice, Chennette!!! Thanks, I'll offer your insights to the Eng 44B discussion.
ReplyDeleteWriting Workshops come out of going to conferences, libby-girl. If you google "writing conferences" you can find many links that list them for you. Also, buy or subscribe to magazines like Poets and Writers and Writers Digest--in the back are listings of conferences. It takes a bit of work to find the ones that sound like they fit your needs, but it's worth it.
Another way is to start your own writing group, yes. If you sense a connection among folks in the Eng 44A class, you can email them and suggest meeting perhaps in a public place to explore the idea of what kind of writing group would serve you.
I agree having writting groups would be such a great idea and interesting at the same time. I think it will be very neat, i will look into 44b class.
